Ghana’s Black Stars forward Inaki Williams scored deep into stoppage time to send Athletic Club into the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, sealing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Valencia in a pulsating quarter-final encounter.

The match was filled with twists and turns from the early stages. Valencia’s Umar Sadiq endured a difficult night, first turning the ball into his own net in the 26th minute before redeeming himself nine minutes later by scoring for Valencia to level the contest.

With the tie finely balanced and heading towards extra time, Athletic Club turned to their talismanic Williams brothers. Inaki and Nico were both introduced in the 70th minute, injecting urgency and belief into Bilbao’s attack.

That decision proved decisive. In the 96th minute, the brothers combined brilliantly, with Nico supplying the assist for Inaki to fire home the winning goal and spark wild celebrations among the fans.

The strike secured Athletic Club’s place in the semi-finals of a competition they lifted in 2024, keeping alive hopes of another memorable cup run.

For Inaki Williams, who captains the side, the goal was his second of the season and another reminder of his ability to deliver on the biggest occasions.

As the final whistle blew, it was Bilbao who marched on, thanks to a last-gasp moment of quality from one of their most trusted leaders.
