The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed calls by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disband the party’s private security arm, Invincible Forces.

According to the Acting General Secretary of the ruling party-NPP, John Boadu, the opposition National Democratic Congress has no moral right to now call for a truce because it supervised impunity in political violence during its regime.

All these boys who have come up protecting us is as a result of security break down in our country, which was supervised by the NDC,” he told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described as unfortunate post-election violence across the country when he delivered his first State of the Nation Address Tuesday.

Certain incidents occurred during the transition period that are matters of concern to me, and should be to every Ghanaian, as they marred an otherwise dignified and successful transition.

“Wrongdoing has no political colour, and I do not subscribe to the lawlessness of political party supporters simply because their party has been elected into office,” he said.

Although, President Akufo-Addo has condemned the attacks and called on the police to deal with lawbreakers during his maiden State of the Nations address in parliament on Tuesday, 21 February, the NDC said the president’s call for cessation on the lawlessness has come too late, and thus the posture of Mr. Akufo-Addo made him appear more as a leader of a vigilante group than the commander in-chief of the armed forces.

Commenting on the calls by the main opposition to disband the Invincible Forces of the ruling party, Boadu said the NPP cannot take such instructions from the NDC because it decides how it runs its own internal affairs.

Do they pay them? Asiedu should shut up. We won’t disband them” he said.

According to him, Asiedu Nketiah and other officials of the NDC cannot pontificate on the seeming security breach within the political environment because their regime saw worst violence perpetrated by their own people without any condemnation.

In the Abobloshie violence for instance, he said “some of their people after unleashing mayhem on our boys, killing and maiming several of them, the criminals were later enlisted into the National Security.”

These are some of the things that has given rise to the invincible forces emerging and protecting our party” he noted, saying if they see that the Police is now decisive to bring to book lawbreakers the boys will submit to order.”
