Global internet sensation IShowSpeed, popularly known as “Speed,” was officially welcomed into Ghanaian culture on Monday through a vibrant Akan naming ceremony held in the Eastern Region.
The colourful cultural rite, steeped in tradition and royal symbolism, saw the young streamer formally introduced to ancient Akan customs and presented with a Ghanaian name — Barima Kofi Akuffo — symbolising his connection to the community.
Organised by local chiefs and elders, the ceremony turned the community grounds into a lively cultural showcase, complete with rich kente attire, thunderous traditional drumming, and captivating dances that reflected Ghana’s deep heritage.
Hundreds of residents and visitors gathered to witness the historic moment, creating a festive atmosphere filled with excitement and warm Ghanaian hospitality.

Dressed in specially prepared traditional cloth, Speed immersed himself fully in the experience. He danced enthusiastically to the rhythmic fontomfrom drums, exchanged greetings with elders, and interacted joyfully with cheering fans — visibly moved by the warm reception.
