Highly-rated Italian-born Ghanaian midfielder Justin Kumi has officially left Serie A side US Sassuolo following the conclusion of his five-year contract with the club.

Kumi, who was born to Ghanaian parents in Italy, joined the youth team of US Sassuolo at the age of 13 after impressing at lower-tier side Giorgione Calcio Juniores in 2018.

The 18-year-old has garnered a reputation as one of the most promising box-to-box midfielders in European football due to his impressive performances for the US Sassuolo U19 team.

In the recently concluded season, Kumi made 23 appearances for US Sassuolo in the Italian U19 league, contributing two goals and three assists.

Expressing his gratitude in an emotional Instagram post, Kumi thanked the club and his teammates for making his time at US Sassuolo memorable.

He wrote, "I don't even know where to start and what to write because a right comment for this post I don't know if it exists and I never wanted to write it because we were all hoping for another ending."

Kumi continued, "I leave by saying thank you, thank you for so many things, for making me part of this family, for making me live the most beautiful season of my life, for having met wonderful people like you and for all the great moments we spent together."

Reflecting on the season, he highlighted the team's achievements and the bond they formed, stating, "This year has been a fantastic year... we managed to get into the top four teams of Italy which for everyone at the beginning of the championship would have been unthinkable, for everyone but not for us because from the first day we saw each other we understood that there was something different almost magical in the air."

Despite not being able to contribute on the field during the crucial moments of the season, Kumi expressed his pride in his teammates' efforts and their collective spirit. He also mentioned that he was sorry for not being able to help them and expressed his love and gratitude.

Kumi has been linked with potential moves to Spanish giants FC Barcelona and Dutch club PSV Eindhoven as he looks to continue his promising career.
