Jennifer Lopez is facing two federal lawsuits from photographer Edwin Blanco and photo agency Backgrid USA for allegedly posting copyrighted photos of herself on social media without permission.

The photos were taken outside the Amazon MGM Studios and Vanity Fair Party in Los Angeles on January 4, 2025, the night before the Golden Globe Awards.

Background

The dispute centers around two photos of Lopez in a white dress and faux fur coat, which she posted on her Instagram and X accounts with the caption "GG Weekend Glamour".

Blanco and Backgrid claim to co-own the images and allege that Lopez's use of the photos was commercial in nature, intended for self-promotion and boosting user engagement.

Alleged Copyright Infringement

According to the lawsuits, Lopez's posts featuring the photos triggered a wave of reposts online, including fan pages and fashion brands.

The plaintiffs argue that Lopez leveraged the publicity from the event to promote her fashion affiliations and brand partnerships without permission or compensation.

This isn't the first time Lopez has faced similar claims. In 2019 and 2020, she was sued for posting unauthorized paparazzi photos of herself.

Other celebrities, including Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid, and Khloe Kardashian, have also faced similar lawsuits.

Potential Damages

Backgrid and Blanco are seeking up to $150,000 in statutory damages per image, which could total $300,000 if the lawsuit succeeds.

Under U.S. copyright law, the photographer or company owns the rights to an image, and the person in the photo does not have control over its use.

Settlement Attempts

According to reports, Blanco and Backgrid reached out to Lopez's team after the alleged infringement and verbally agreed on a monetary settlement.

However, Lopez never signed a written agreement, and no payment was made.
