Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has strongly refuted claims that he intends to resign from Parliament and “sell” his seat if former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 elections.

The false report, which originated from an obscure online portal, opr.news, suggested that the first-time MP was opposed to Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and had issued a dramatic ultimatum, threatening to step down from his parliamentary seat if the former Vice President was selected as the party’s presidential candidate.

The article further alleged that Ahmed Shaib had criticised the NPP leadership and accused Dr. Bawumia of dismantling the party’s core values.

In a swift and emphatic response on Monday, July 21, Mr. Ahmed Shaib dismissed these claims as “completely false” and “malicious,” calling the report a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation and sow division within the NPP.

The MP urged party supporters and the public to avoid believing unverified information from unreliable online sources, reaffirming his commitment to the unity and success of the NPP.

Mr. Ahmed Shaib, who was elected to Parliament in 2024, is recognised as a rising figure within the NPP and was appointed Deputy Minority Whip in his first term.
