Former Liverpool star John Barnes has suggested that Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus could be a fitting successor to Mohamed Salah at Anfield, drawing a compelling comparison between the two players.
Barnes praised Kudus for his dynamic and direct style of play, noting similarities with Salah’s approach.
“Kudus was fantastic. He was sensational for West Ham last season,” Barnes told BettingExpert.
“Even Mohamed Salah says he won’t be here in three years’ time, so that could be a role that Kudus takes on. He’s young, dynamic, direct, and plays in a style similar to Mo.”
Salah, who made a high-impact move to Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, is entering the final year of his contract with the club.
His future remains uncertain, particularly with growing interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League. This uncertainty has sparked speculation about who might fill the significant role left by the Egyptian forward.
Barnes believes that Kudus, following his impressive stint at West Ham United last season, could be a strong candidate for the role.
Kudus made a notable impact with eight goals and five assists in the Premier League and also scored in the Europa League for West Ham after his transfer from Ajax.
Currently in the United States for preseason with West Ham, Kudus continued to showcase his talent by scoring in a 3-1 defeat to Wolves.
His ongoing strong performances have intensified speculation about a potential move to Liverpool or another top-tier club.
As Liverpool evaluates future options, Kudus’s attributes and playing style present him as a compelling option for those considering how to replace Salah’s influence at the club.
