Asante Kotoko head coach Prince Owusu has cast doubt over the availability of forward Johnson Owusu ahead of their Ghana Premier League encounter with Samartex.
Kotoko are set to host Samartex on 6 April as they aim to build momentum following a mixed run of form that has seen them record two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five matches.
Providing an update before the fixture, Prince Owusu admitted the striker is unlikely to return in time, although he noted encouraging signs in his recovery.
“The chances for him coming back in the next game are not that huge, but we are waiting to tomorrow,” he said. “He told me there is much improvement. He couldn’t pick the leg up by itself before, but now he does it and he does it very well.”
Johnson Owusu’s potential absence will be a concern for Kotoko as they look to maintain their push in the league standings during a crucial stage of the season.
Samartex, meanwhile, head into the match searching for form, having failed to win in their last five outings, drawing three and losing two.
Monday’s fixture is scheduled to kick off at 16:30 GMT, with both sides seeking a positive result for different reasons as the campaign approaches its decisive phase.
