Tensions boiled over within the Black Stars camp as Jordan Ayew and Lawrence Ati Zigi were involved in a heated confrontation following Ghana's disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The altercation, which took place after the final whistle, saw the two players exchange sharp words before teammates intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further.

Ghana’s defeat in the crucial match dealt a major blow to their hopes of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars had entered the game with the pressure of needing a win, having already stumbled in their earlier encounter against Sudan with a frustrating draw in Accra.

This time, the Falcons of Jediane capitalized on the opportunity, scoring twice in the second half through Ahmed Hamed Mohamed and Mohamed Abdelrahman Yagoub.

Despite Otto Addo’s tactical adjustments—Inaki Williams starting ahead of Ayew and Ati Zigi maintaining his spot in goal—the team struggled, managing only one shot on target throughout the match.

Defensive lapses contributed to the two goals conceded, leaving Zigi visibly frustrated. Ayew, who came on in the second half, was unable to turn the tide in Ghana’s favor.

While details of the altercation remain unclear, the incident highlights the growing frustrations within the squad as their chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON dwindle.

Currently sitting third in Group F with only two points from four matches, Ghana risks missing out on the tournament for the first time since 2004.

With two qualifiers remaining against Angola and Niger, the Black Stars must secure victories and hope for favorable results from other matches if they are to keep their AFCON dreams alive.
