Ghana forward Jordan Ayew has lauded compatriot Abdul Fatawu Issahaku for his resilience and determination in reaching the Premier League.
The young winger, who joined Sporting CP in 2022, faced challenges adapting to the European game, with manager Rúben Amorim noting that he struggled with fundamental aspects and didn't fit into the team’s system.
After a loan stint at Leicester City during their relegation, Issahaku played a pivotal role in helping the club secure swift promotion back to the Premier League.
Ayew, who joined Leicester this summer and reunited with Issahaku, reflected on his journey and expressed admiration for the young talent.
“It’s really great, actually. I met Abdul for the first time at the national training camp with Ghana around six years ago,” Ayew shared in an interview with Showmax.
“This just shows you that the boy has done a really good job and has worked hard to get to where he is today. All credit to him.”
Ayew emphasized his commitment to supporting Issahaku during their time together at Leicester, saying, “I am now here at Leicester City to not only continue my football journey but to also make sure Abdul is in a good place, because I know it isn’t easy at all for young players.
I was very lucky because I had my brother and a few other senior players that were always advising me.”
He added, “Now that I am here and have been in the position to know how it is, I can guide him, but also be hard on him when I have to be. It’s all positive things for him.”
As of now, Jordan Ayew has appeared in eight matches for Leicester City, while Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has played nine times for the club, both contributing to the team's ongoing campaign in the Premier League.
