Hearts of Oak striker Joseph Esso has won the 2019 Ghana Football Awards Goal of the Year Award,  beating teammate Mate Manaf Umar and WAFA's Mattew to the title.

The 22-year-old's had his stunning strike against Dreams FC in the S.T Nettey Memorial Cup was voted by the jury as the most aesthetically pleasing goal of the year at the 2nd edition of the Awards.

The goal, which was the first of the brace Esso scored in the match played in honour of the then Commissioner of Labour and Social Welfare under the National Liberation Council (NLC) regime and onetime spiritual head of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mr S. T. Nettey, helped the Phobians to defeat Dream FC by 2-1.

It also happened to be the Phobian's first goal at the Accra Sports stadium , after their  return from the Cape Coast Stadium 18 months.

The former Ebusua Dwarfs attacker went on to carve an impressive individual stellar performance as he ended the season as  Accra Hearts of Oak's highest goal scorer in all competition for the season.

Esso,who joined the Phobian in 2017/18 season, was handed the prize at the Marriott Hotel in Accra on Sunday.

He is one of the highly-rated attackers in the Ghana Premier League with his deadly strikes.

Esso was handed an invitation to the Ghana U23 team last year.

The Ghana Football Awards is an annual award scheme that recognises stellar performers in their various categories.
