Serie A champions Juventus have finally announced the capture of 19 year old Ajax captain Mathis de Ligt after a protracted transfer for an initial fee of £67.8million.

The Italian champions beat off competition from the likes of Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United and a host of other teams to secure the signature of the prodigious talent on a 5 year contract.

De Ligt last season helped his Club Ajax to the domestic double while captaining his team to the semi final stage of the UEFA Champions League.

He will form a solid wall of defence with experience duo of Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

Juventus announced the deal on their Twitter page with the cleverly phrased: 'Turn the Ligt on', message.

Having completed his medical without a hitch on Wednesday, fans were made to wait until Thursday morning before the announcement was finally made.

De Ligt's transfer has been a long time coming after his agent Mino Raiola agreed personal terms worth around £10.75m a year with the club weeks ago.
