Karela United gave their Ghana Premier League survival hopes a massive lift with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Medeama SC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on Sunday.
The crucial win sees Karela leap out of the relegation zone, now sitting three points clear with just three games left to play in the season.
From the onset, Karela approached the match with intensity and determination, pushing for an early breakthrough. Although Medeama’s defense initially held firm, the pressure eventually told as Malik Abubakar found the net in the 27th minute to put the home side ahead before the break.
Medeama returned from the interval with renewed urgency, but Karela remained composed and extended their lead through Ali Alhassan in the 62nd minute. Just five minutes later, Abubakar struck again to complete his brace and give Karela a commanding 3-0 lead.
Medeama managed a consolation just a minute after Karela’s third, with Godknows Dzakpasu scoring in the 68th minute, but it proved too little, too late.
The result continues Medeama’s poor away form, while Karela United’s spirited performance gives them renewed hope in their battle to avoid relegation.
