A resident of Kasoa in the Central Region, Abena Fosua, says she is grateful to God after her 22-year-old daughter, Benedicta Agyeiwaa, regained consciousness following the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise on Wednesday.
Speaking to Adom News, Abena recounted the harrowing moment she learned her daughter had been caught in the chaos and rushed to the 37 Military Hospital, where she later slipped into a coma.
“She went into a coma, but she has now regained consciousness. I am hopeful she will recover fully and return home soon,” she said, her voice filled with both relief and anxiety.
The mother of four said she had been praying fervently for Benedicta’s recovery since the incident, which claimed six lives and left several others injured after what GAF described as a breach of protocols at the venue.
Medical officials at the 37 Military Hospital confirmed that Benedicta is responding well to treatment and remains under close observation.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has suspended the ongoing recruitment exercise in line with a directive from President John Mahama and constituted a board of inquiry to investigate the circumstances that led to the deadly stampede.
