The Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has lambasted the President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government for siding with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

His comments came at the back of a recent praise heaped on Ghana by the IMF during their Managing Director's; Ms. Christine Largarde's visit to Ghana.

During Ms. Largarde's visit, she exclaimed that Ghana's current economy is in good standing than what it was two years ago when the current government won and came into power.

Ms Largarde whose visit marked the end of Ghana's current program with the IMF said the IMF programme had been an anchor for orderly economic adjustment and a positive signal to the market.

During that period, Ms Lagarde said, the Ghanaian authorities had made important gains towards macroeconomic stability, including inflation, which had declined to a single digit and now within the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG’s) tolerance band; buoyant growth, averaging about five per cent between 2015 and 2018 (and over six per cent in 2017-18) and a primary surplus in 2017 for the first time in 15 years.

However, controversial and tough-talking MP; Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, will not take any of these praises the MD of IMF showered on Ghana; thus lambasted the president.

He claimed that the IMF MD said all those nice words because President Akufo-Addo and his government are doing the bidding of the IMF.

He continued to note that it is not the IMF who voted President Akufo-Addo and the NPP into power, instead it was the Ghanaian citizenry so he (Akufo-Addo) should focus on improving the livelihood of Ghanaians rather than pleasing the IMF.

During the IMF MD's visit, the Vice President Muhamadu Bawumia, Minister for Finance and a lot of other government dignitaries graced the occasion.

The vice president who doubles as head of Ghana's economic team made certain assurances, promising the IMF that Ghana would henceforth be financially disciplined.
