Spanish international goalkeeper,  Kepa Arrizabalaga Revuelta has announced his departure from Chelsea as Arsenal also announced his signing right after.

The 30 year old Spaniard who signed form Athletic Club in a record €80M deal to Chelsea in 2018 after having been on loan at Ponferrdina and Valladolid in the previous seasons before a revelation campaign in 2018 that saw him become a pivotal figure in between the sticks for the Basque outfit.

In August 2018 when he joined Chelsea from Athletic Club, a young Kepa became a key figure in the Chelsea side, making a name for himself in the setup as he played in the domestic and continental competitions. He played for Chelsea for four consecutive seasons from 2018/2019 to 2023/2024 before joining Real Madrid on loan.

During his active and consistent time at Chelsea, he won the UEAF Europa League trophy in 2019 where he made crucial saves for Chelsea on their way to the finals, clinching his first ever laurel at the London-based club. Also, he went on to win the UEFA Champions League title in the 2020/2021 season when he had competition from Senegalese shot stopper Edouard Mendy who had joined the side at the beginning of the season.

Kepa again went on to win the UEFA Super Cup trophy with Chelsea in 2021 when Chelsea won on penalties as he made crucial saves in the finals to help Chelsea clinch its second ever UEFA Super Cup title. Kepa also won the FIFA Club World Cup title with Chelsea in 2021 when they conquered the world by beating Brazilian side Palmeiras 2-1 after extra time.

Kepa Arrizabalaga became the pillar in the sticks for Chelsea for a long period of time until the introduction of Edouard Mendy who gave him a stiff competition in between the posts for Chelsea.

In August 2023, Kepa went out on loan to Real Madrid to help revamp a crisis-hit goalkeeping department when number one goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had an injury that rendered him unable to play for a long period.

Kepa went on to win three titles after featuring in only 20 games for the side. He won the UEFA Champions League title, La Liga and Supercopa de Espana titles.

He again won the UEFA Nations League trophy with Spain in the same year as they edged Croatia 5-4 on penalties after a goalles draw in regulation time.

At the end of his loan spell at Real Madrid in the 2023/2024 season, Kepa returned to Chelsea and was again loaned out to AFC Bournemouth for the 2024/2025 season where he helped the Cherries finish on 9th position, a better finish than the 2023/2024 season where they finished 12th on the log.

On July 1 2025, London neighbors Arsenal have announced the signing of the 30 year old Spanish goalkeeper from Chelsea, triggering the €5M release clause to secure the signing of the Spaniard after spending seven years at Chelsea.

The Spaniard is expected to be a backup option for his compatriot David Raya in between the sticks for the next three year as indicated by the club after his signing.

“Kepa knows it is an exciting time to be at Arsenal and we know he is a player who will bring with him a winning mentality. We welcome him and his family to the club, and look forward to him meeting the players and staff, with everyone excited to see him.” The club statement read.

“We are really happy to have Kepa joining us. He is a player we know, having come up against him many times in recent seasons. He brings a wealth of experience, which his teammates will benefit from, and he has a real hunger to win.” Arteta added.
