Sydney: Prolific Australian striker Sam Kerr achieved yet another career milestone on Thursday, breaking national teammate Michelle Heyman's all-time W-League scoring record.

Kerr scored twice in Perth Glory's 5-1 away win over Western Sydney Wanderers, with her first goal breaking the existing record of 63 career goals in the league in the 70th minute.

The 2017 AFC Women's Player of the Year added her second of the match 11 minutes later, to take her tally to 65, taking her two clear of Heyman, who turns out for Adelaide United.

The victory takes Perth to the top of the W-League table, although Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar remain in touching distance as the season reaches its business end.

Remarkably, having already broken the same record with 55 goals in the US-based National Women's Soccer League, Kerr now holds the all-time scoring records in two of the world's strongest domestic leagues despite being just 25 years old.

The record is the latest in a long line of achievements for the West Australian, whose last two years have earned her MVP and Golden Boot awards in both the United States and Australia and a nomination for FIFA's Best Women's Player, in addition to her continental accolade.

Meanwhile, Australia's search for a replacement for former head coach Alen Stajcic has begun ahead of June's FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019.

“It is important our next Matildas coach has a proven record of success and is aligned to our national playing style as well as being an ambassador for the game in Australia," said Football Federation Australia Chief Executive Officer David Gallop.

“I’ve spoken to our players and despite the circumstances, they are now focused on winning and building a culture of excellence that future generations of Matildas will benefit from."Source: the-afc.com
