The Special Weapons Handling and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Ghana Police Service shot and killed two suspected Nigerians for attacking 82-year-old woman and damaging her house.

The suspects; Mr Nyi Pius and another unidentified man on Friday 1330 hours allegedly assaulted Hajia Memuna Kassim, the 82-year-old woman, at Wapanii in the Wa Municipality and started causing damage to her house at Block A, number 70, where the suspects were living.

Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, the Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), who was briefing the Ghana News Agency, said the suspects also attacked the Police with mattocks, Jackknifes and daggers despite several warning shots to keep peace.

In the ensuing exchanges with the police officers, the suspects were shot at below belt, Inspector Boateng said, overpowering them, but when they were transported to the Hospital for treatment, unfortunately they were pronounced dead few hours after admission.

He said B.B live cartridges and packs of smoked wrapped leaves believed to be narcotic drugs were retrieved from the suspects and a hijab belonging to the landlady were found in the suspect’s room.

The Police called on relatives of the suspects to come for identification and collection of their dead bodies.

There has been growing highway robbery, assassinations and stealing including; other violent criminal activities in the Upper West Region, compelling shop owners and traders to close work earlier in the evening than before for the fear of being attacked.

Last month, Mr Richard Poulabong Bayiilela, National Democratic Congress Chairman for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Constituency was killed by unknown gunmen, while early this month a suspected Burkinabe gunman was arrested in Hamile Catholic Church during Sunday mass service.
