Kofi Agbesimah to depart from Hearts of Oak
23rd July 2024
Hearts of Oak's captain and defender, Kofi Agbesimah, has decided to leave the club despite having a year remaining on his initial two-year contract.
The 27-year-old, who joined Hearts of Oak from Bechem United last summer, has cited undisclosed issues within the club as the reason for his dissatisfaction.
Agbesimah played a pivotal role in the team's defense, featuring in 30 league matches and scoring one goal during the 2023/24 campaign.
His leadership and experience have been invaluable to the team, making his departure a significant setback for Hearts of Oak.
In an interview with KessbenSports, Agbesimah expressed his frustration with the situation at the club:
"I'm not happy at Hearts of Oak. I want to leave. When Hearts signed me, if you look at how they hyped me and all that, I wanted to do something that would have made them very happy.
But in football, certain things can happen which is very common in football, so that's why I want to leave."
Agbesimah's decision to leave marks a challenging period for Hearts of Oak as they navigate the loss of a key player and leader.
His departure follows a standout season, and replacing his presence on the field and in the locker room will be a significant task for the club's management.
As Hearts of Oak prepare for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, the club will need to address the internal issues that led to Agbesimah's dissatisfaction and focus on rebuilding their squad to remain competitive.
