The late former National chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Adjei until his demise was unhappy with how the affairs of the party was run, Former President Rawlings has said.

The founder of the NDC said Dr. Adjei was disappointed over how the NDC was "monetized" and "held hostage" by a some elements within the party.

Mr. Rawlings made the comments when he made a call on the family of the late chairman at his Agboba residence in the outskirts of Accra on Monday.

Describing the late Adjei as a fighter, the former military ruler said Dr. Kwabena Adjei, was a very strong and passionate man who lived his conviction.

“Adjei was disappointed in terms of our own weaknesses as a party. He was disappointed about the politics of our party and the fact that it had been monetized and held hostage. He was hurt about the loss of the value systems of the party,” Flt Lt Rawlings said.

The former president urged the family to stay strong and united during this difficult period and expressed the hope that his children will carry some of his fighting spirit.

The late Dr. Adjei served as party chairman from 2005 to 2014. Prior to that he had a rich political history, serving in several capacities under the PNDC and NDC governments.

Dr Kwabena Adjei who also served as former MP for Biakoye died on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 after a short illness.

He was reportedly being treated for an undisclosed ailment at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital but could not survive.

He died three days after marking his 76th birthday on March 9, 2019.

Dr. Adjei graduated with a PhD (Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology) from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, U.K in 1973.
