Ghanaian striker Kwabena Owusu has raised concerns of frustration over his continued national team snub despite playing at the highest level in Europe.

The former Sporting Club Accra striker made his Black Stars debut in 2019 in a friendly against South Africa before being call up in the final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where Ghana exited in the round of 16 following a penalty shootout loss against Tunisia.

The forward has been consistently overlooked by the national team recruiting staff, and he has been left gutted by the experience.

“It’s hard to understand. I was getting call-ups when I was playing in the lower divisions, but now that I’m at the top level, playing in Europe’s biggest competitions, I’ve been ignored. None of the Black Stars strikers has more goals than me currently.

“This season, I scored 9 goals in 14 games. I feel like some people have taken things personally. I deserve a chance based on performance alone.

“They say I’m disrespectful. I want them to show me where I disrespected anyone. I have always given my best and shown respect.” He told Pure FM.

Kwabena Owusu featured for Ghana’s U-23 side under ex-Ghana international Ibrahim Tanko where they failed to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Owusu, 27, is under contract with Hungarian giants, Ferencvaros but spent the last season on loan with Turkish Super Lig club, Ankaragucu where he netted nine goals in 15 league games.
