The palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Council at Abene came under attack at dawn on Monday, November 17, 2025, when armed men dressed in what appeared to be police uniforms and claiming to be National Security operatives stormed the premises around 4 a.m.

Residents reported hearing gunshots from within the palace before the alleged abduction of the Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, who was present during the raid.

The assailants also seized the official Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the Kwahuhene. Tracking data suggests the vehicle is currently headed toward Accra.

The motive behind the attack and the alleged abduction remains unknown. Both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have denied any knowledge of an authorised operation involving personnel identifying themselves as national security agents.

Citi News sources say the incident has heightened fear among residents, particularly amid ongoing tensions linked to the Kwahu chieftaincy disputes.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but investigations are underway.

More details will follow as the situation develops.
