Asante Kotoko have officially announced the return of former striker Kwame Opoku, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club. The deal is subject to the completion of medicals and international transfer clearance.
The 27-year-old forward makes a comeback to the Porcupine Warriors after his impressive spell during the 2020/21 season, where he contributed six goals and three assists in 16 appearances.
His performances then earned him a transfer to USM Alger in Algeria, followed by a stint with Moroccan side Olympique Khouribga.
Opoku, who will don the number 31 jersey, is expected to bolster Kotoko’s attack, which has struggled to find consistent form this season.
With just 10 goals scored in 12 league games, the team has felt the absence of their top scorer, Albert Amoah, who has been sidelined due to injury.
Having trained with Kotoko for several weeks, Opoku waited for the second transfer window and the necessary registration processes to finalize his return.
His signing is widely regarded as a crucial addition to Kotoko's squad, as they strive to reignite their campaign and compete for top honors in the league.
