Kwesi Appiah has downplayed Ghana’s winless run ahead of this month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt following Saturday’s draw with South Africa in their final preparatory game.

The four-time continental champions shockingly lost 1-0 against Namibia in their first pre-AFCON friendly match played at the Jebel Ali Centre of Excellence in Dubai last Sunday.

Despite the poor result, the Black Stars boss insists there is no cause for alarm;

“I think the idea was to get the team play together in a competitive atmosphere. The matches served the purpose. Am I worried about not scoring? The intention was not to win, but see what we have been able to achieve in these past few days.

“We have some rough edges to smoothen before our campaign kicks off and these few days will be dedicated to that,” Appiah said.

The Black Stars have been drawn in group A alongside champions Cameroon, Guinea Bissau and Benin.

Ghana will kickstart their campaign against Benin on June 25, four days before facing defending champions Cameroon.

The Black Stars last Group game will be against Guinea-Bissau on July 2.
