Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah has made a strong start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, guiding Sudan to a crucial 1-0 win over Niger in their Group F opener.

This victory places Sudan at the top of the group, at least temporarily, with three valuable points.

The decisive goal came in the 51st minute from Abobaker Mamoun Eisa, who scored at the Juba Stadium in South Sudan.

The result underscores the strategic efficiency and solid management Appiah has brought to the Sudanese national team since taking charge.

Appiah, who previously coached Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, has been tasked with leading Sudan to the AFCON finals in Morocco.

Under his guidance, the team has maintained an impressive unbeaten streak in competitive matches, recording four wins and a draw in their last five games.

This remarkable run also includes success in World Cup qualifiers, demonstrating Appiah's ability to maximize his players' potential in critical situations.

The victory over Niger not only enhances Sudan's chances of qualifying for the AFCON but also sets the stage for a highly anticipated clash against Ghana, Appiah's former team.

Before that, Sudan will face Angola in their second qualifier, where Appiah will look to continue his unbeaten run and further solidify Sudan's position in the group.
