Former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has shared insights into his encounter with Ghana's current coach, Otto Addo, following the 0-0 draw between Ghana and Sudan in Accra during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
After the frustrating draw, where Ghana squandered multiple chances, Otto Addo expressed to Appiah that the Black Stars were unlucky not to have secured a win.
Addo went on to tell Appiah that Sudan was fortunate in Accra and warned that Ghana would not have the same luck in the second leg in Libya, where Sudan later triumphed 2-0.
Recalling their exchange, Appiah said, "After the game in Accra, I went to Ghana's dressing room to exchange pleasantries with the players and technical staff. When I got there, Otto Addo told me we were lucky. He also warned me that we will not be lucky in Libya."
Appiah, who had previously coached the Black Stars, saw Addo's words as a source of motivation.
He shared this with his players, and they used it to fuel their determination for the second leg, which ultimately ended in a 2-0 defeat for Ghana in Benghazi.
The result in Libya was crucial, as it helped Sudan secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, edging out Ghana and Niger to claim second place in Group F.
