An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a labourer, Thomas Agbeko, to 24 months’ imprisonment for stealing an unregistered Peugeot motorbike valued at GH¢20,000 from his neighbour.
Agbeko admitted breaking a GH¢1,000 lock to gain access to a warehouse, where he stole the bike.
Presiding judge Mrs. Susana Eduful handed him concurrent sentences for unlawful entry, theft, and causing unlawful damage.
His alleged accomplice, identified only as Solomon, is still at large.
Presenting the facts, Police Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Okuffo told the court that the complainant, Madam Betty Agyeman, is a trader living at Kanda in Accra.
In August 2024, Madam Agyeman imported secondhand goods from Italy and engaged her houseboy and Agbeko to offload them into her warehouse.
Agbeko was also instructed to weed the surroundings and later asked to push an unregistered Peugeot motorbike, with chassis number PJL000215J4892002, into the warehouse.
On August 10, 2025, Agbeko confided in a friend about his plan to steal the bike by tampering with its wiring.
Another friend, who later became a prosecution witness, discouraged him and warned of police consequences.
However, on August 18, 2025, Madam Agyeman reported the motorbike missing. Suspicion immediately fell on Agbeko, who was arrested.
Though he initially denied involvement, he later confessed to stealing the bike with Solomon.
Agbeko led police to Agbogbloshie-Zongo Junction, claiming he had sent the motorbike there to be sold, but he refused to disclose the buyer’s identity.
He was subsequently charged and convicted.
