Former Ghana winger Laryea Kingston has weighed in on the debate between Michael Essien and Thomas Partey, declaring Essien as the better midfielder.

While Kingston acknowledged Partey's talent, he emphasized Essien's remarkable achievements, particularly his influential role at Chelsea.

According to Kingston, Essien’s ability to break into and establish himself as a key player in a star-studded Chelsea squad sets him apart.

Kingston, who had the privilege of playing alongside Essien, shared his admiration for the former Chelsea powerhouse:

"We all know what he did at Chelsea when they had a fantastic team, a very strong team. He was a regular in the team, playing week in and week out."

He added, "Partey has his strengths and has done very well, but for me, Michael Essien was something else."

Essien, who retired in 2020, had an illustrious career, winning multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups, and the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea.

His time at Real Madrid and AC Milan further cemented his status as one of the best midfielders of his generation.

Partey, currently one of Arsenal’s key players, has made significant contributions to the club, helping them win the UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Europa League, and securing a La Liga title with Atlético Madrid.

Despite his success, Kingston believes Essien’s overall impact makes him the superior midfielder.
