Deputy National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abigail Elorm Akwambea Mensah has mounted a strong defence for Professor Ransford Gyampo, a lecturer at the Political Science department of the University of Ghana who was implicated in the BBC African Eye's "Sex for Grades" documentary.

According to Elorm, lecturers trading grade for sex happens everywhere in the world with the United Kingdom (UK) being the worse nation.

“Sex for grades is not new; it happens everywhere so why are we making a farce about it. We should be bold and tell them in the face that it is not only in Ghana lecturers trade grades for sex. It is worse in the United Kingdom,” she fumed.

The NDC Deputy Organizer is convinced some people are using his moment of weakness to sabotage Prof. Gyampo for being vocal on national issues, especially on social media.

The NDC woman, outraged at the public reaction to the BBC documentary, claimed it was an attempt by the Western world to discredit universities in Ghana and Africa at large.

Prof Gyampo and Dr. Paul Kwame Bukator have been interdicted by authorities of the university for alledged sexual misconducts in the said investigative piece.

Though he has vehemently denied the allegation insisting the lady in question is not his student, the school’s Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee has commenced investigations into the matter.

Speaking on Adom FM, Abigail posited in as much as she is against sexual harassment of any form, she stressed the BBC documentary which implicated Prof Gyampo does not portray so.

She said given the passion with which the learned Professor exposed himself to the lady, it was obvious he [Gyampo] was in love.
