Robert Lewandowski is close at agreeing a new contract with Bayern Munich, making him one of the club's highest earners.

Mark Barthel, who works with Robert Lewandowski's agent Cezary Kucharsky, has revealed that the 28-year-old is set to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena.

"It won't be long until he signs," Barthel told kicker.

Lewandowski's current contract expires at the end of 2019, but Bayern are eager to see the Poland international extend his deal, after he was linked with a move away.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge discussed the ongoing negotiations in August, saying the Bundesliga club 'won't sell' their top scorer.

"We have had several talks with his agents," Rummenigge told Bild. "We're ready to extend it. We certainly won't sell him.

"We are always ready to extend contracts prematurely and adjust their conditions to the present situation and market value.

"We won't be able to pay wages similar to those at Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain.

"We are paying very good salaries, but these clubs pay crazy wages in some cases."

However, Bayern are likely to offer a new contract which will see him equal Thomas Muller's salary of €15 million per year.
