A heated online confrontation has broken out between GhOne TV presenter Lily Mohammed and Louisa Laryea, the wife of Ghanaian broadcaster Israel Laryea, after a series of strongly worded Facebook posts triggered widespread public attention on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
The feud, which has rapidly gone viral across the social media space, began with a post by Louisa Laryea that appeared to criticise what she described as a growing culture of superficiality within modern journalism.
Without mentioning any individual by name, Louisa suggested that the profession was increasingly being reduced to appearance rather than substance.
“Journalism goes way beyond make-up, skin bleaching, BBL, hair and fashion. Journalists ought to research, court the facts, interrogate data and demonstrate sound reasoning,” she wrote, ending her message with the hashtag #IShowSpeedMattersArising.
Her comments were widely interpreted online as a subtle jab at certain female media personalities, particularly in the context of recent public discussions involving Lily Mohammed and her earlier remarks about the government decision to issue a Ghanaian passport to American streamer IShowSpeed during his visit to Ghana.
The IShowSpeed controversy has been trending for days, with many Ghanaians debating whether the influencer’s high-profile tour stop in Ghana warranted what some described as unusually swift official recognition.
Lily Mohammed had been among those questioning the decision, arguing that ordinary citizens often endure long delays and bureaucratic frustrations when attempting to acquire passports, making the reported fast-tracking for a foreign celebrity appear unfair.
Louisa’s post, coming amid that national conversation, was therefore seen by many as an indirect response to Lily’s criticisms.
In a sharp and immediate rebuttal, Lily Mohammed responded publicly with a strongly worded message, accusing Louisa of making an unintelligent and unnecessary personal attack.
“One would have expected an intelligent comment from someone that touts herself as same but you chose to stoop this low,” Lily wrote.
She went further to dismiss any perceived authority Louisa claimed within the profession, adding:
“That you are married to a journalist definitely does not make you one. The profession is not sexually transmitted… Maybe that will serve as a guide for your future endeavours.”
The exchange has since dominated online conversations, drawing mixed reactions from the public.
While some users defended Lily Mohammed’s right to respond against what they saw as a condescending attack, others criticised both parties for allowing professional disagreements to devolve into personal insults.
The clash has also reignited broader debates about gender dynamics in the media industry, the pressures female broadcasters face regarding appearance, and the boundaries between public commentary and personal ridicule.
The online dispute comes just hours after Lily Mohammed herself became a major topic of discussion when she criticised the government over what she described as the “hurried” issuance of a Ghanaian passport to IShowSpeed, who is touring Africa as part of a widely followed 20-nation livestream journey.
Following public backlash and what has been reported as outreach from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Lily later withdrew her comments and issued a formal apology.
However, the controversy has now taken a new turn, shifting from national policy questions to a personal media feud that continues to stir intense debate about professionalism, credibility, and respect within the journalism space.
