Liverpool FC have expressed their deepest sadness over the death of their attacker. Diogo Jota who died in the wee hours of Thursday July 3 2025 when his lamborghini exploded after it veered off the road along the Zamora province in Northern Spain when he was with his brother, Andre Silva.
The Mersyside outfit took to the internet to share their grief with regards to the demise of the potent attacker.
In a statement released by the club, it said that the club is “devastated by the unimaginable loss” of their attacking player.
“The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
"We have lost two champions. The passing of Diogo and Andre Silva represents irreparable losses for Portuguese football, and we will do everything to honour their legacy daily."
“Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all teammates and opponents, someone with an infectious joy and a reference in the community itself," the FPF said.
In addition to that, other concerned parties and organizations have also expressed their grievances regarding the untimely death of the Portuguese international:
UEFA announced that a moment of silence will be observed at all the Women's Euro 2025 games on Thursday and Friday, including Portugal's tie against Spain.
Portugal's Prime Minister, Luis Montenegro, said: "The news of the death of Diogo Jota, an athlete who greatly honoured Portugal's name, and his brother is unexpected and tragic."
28 year old Diogo Jota joined Liverpool in September 2020 and since then, he had played in 190 Premier League games, netting 63 goals and clocking 24 assists.
