Liverpool have completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a deal worth a British record £125m, potentially rising to £130m with add-ons.

The 25-year-old Sweden international underwent a medical on Monday before penning a six-year contract with the Reds. He will wear the iconic number nine shirt at Anfield.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Isak expressed excitement about the move:

“This is the next step for me in my career. I’m super happy that I’ve been given this chance and I’m very motivated to do something well with it.

I want to create history. I want to win trophies. That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me.

This is the perfect place for me to grow even further, take my game to the next level and help the team as well.

Liverpool had an initial £110m bid rejected in August but remained determined to land their top attacking target. The deal was announced at 21:30 BST on transfer deadline day, more than two hours after the window officially closed.

The move takes Liverpool’s summer spending to about £416.2m (excluding add-ons), underlining their intent to rebuild under Arne Slot.

Isak’s departure comes after Newcastle secured reinforcements up front, bringing in Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart and Yoane Wissa from Brentford in a £50m move.

Meanwhile, Liverpool failed in their late attempt to sign England defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Despite the 25-year-old undergoing a medical, the transfer collapsed when Palace were unable to secure a replacement.
