The Brazilian attacker was arrested in the early hours of Christmas Eve and faces a charge from the Merseyside police for driving while under the influence of alcohol

Roberto Firmino has been charged for driving while under the influence of alcohol after he was arrested on Christmas Eve.

Merseyside police have confirmed the Brazilian was pulled over in the early hours of Saturday morning and faces a court case in 2017.

“Merseyside Police has charged a 25-year-old man with drink driving after his car was stopped in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday, December 24 2016," a statement read.

“Roberto Firmino, from Liverpool, will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court on January 31.”

The Brazil international's court date clashes with Liverpool's Premier League encounter with current leaders Chelsea.

Firmino has been a key part of the Reds' bright start to the season, scoring five goals and setting up two in 15 games with his side currently sitting second in the table.
