Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has praised Ademola Lookman’s early impact at the club, describing the Nigerian forward as a unique presence who brings qualities the team previously lacked.
Speaking after Lookman’s latest appearance, Simeone highlighted the attacker’s strength in one-on-one situations and his ability to link play, suggesting the former Atalanta man is already beginning to justify the excitement surrounding his arrival in Madrid.
“Lookman is different from all the players we have, especially in one-on-one situations, but he also has associative play,” Simeone said. “His profile allows us to use him in different positions.”
The Argentine coach noted that Lookman’s versatility gives Atletico tactical flexibility, allowing him to operate across the front line or drift into pockets where he can influence the game. That adaptability, Simeone believes, has made his transition into the squad smoother.
“He felt comfortable, and his impact on the team was very good,” the Atletico boss added.
Lookman, who joined from Atalanta after an impressive spell in Italy, arrived with a reputation for direct running, pace and flair. Simeone’s comments suggest the 26-year-old is already earning the trust of his manager in a system known for its intensity and discipline.
Beyond immediate results, Simeone stressed the long-term vision behind the signing, expressing confidence that the relationship will be mutually beneficial.
“Hopefully we can help him become an even better footballer, just as he can help us grow as a team,” he said.
As Atletico continue their push on multiple fronts this season, Lookman’s development and influence could prove crucial, with Simeone clearly encouraged by what he has seen so far from his newest attacking option.
Lookman scored on his debut for Athletico Madrid in their 5-0 win against Real Betis in the Copa del Rey. The super eagles star will be hoping to add more to his account for his new club.
