The incumbent Member of Parliament(MP) for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan has retained her seat in the Parliament.

She beat off stiff competition from popular businessman and actor John Dumelo who contested on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Official results from the Electoral Commission (EC) reveals that the incumbent MP polled 39,851 votes as against John Dumelo's 37,778 votes.

There was a lot of optimism and confidence from both sides heading into the polls with John Dumelo confident on snatching a predominantly NPP seat from the incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

Late last night reports emerged of John Dumelo losing the seat but he urged his supporters to disregard the news as internal party projections predicted a win for him and his Presidential candidate.

Lydia Seyrm Alhassan is the widow of the late Member of Parliament for the area Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko who died in January 2019, after which she contested the Parliamentary seat of Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency and won.

She won the 2019 Ayawaso West by-election with 68.80% of the valid votes cast while the other candidates, Kwasi Delali Brempong of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) polled 30.52%, William Kofi Dowokpor of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Clement Boadi of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) polled 0.58 and 0.10 percent respectively.
