President John Dramani Mahama has nominated two individuals for the positions of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the Central Region, pending confirmation by their respective Municipal Assemblies.

The nominations are in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.

A statement issued on Wednesday, May 28, by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs named Rev. Atta Mensah as the nominee for Effutu Municipal Assembly and Gariba Adam for the Assin Central Municipal Assembly.

The statement, signed by the sector Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, noted that the appointments remain subject to approval by the respective Assemblies, in line with Ghana’s decentralised governance structure.

The nominations are expected to trigger the formal process in which Assembly members in both municipalities will convene to either confirm or reject the President’s picks.

This forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local governance and enhance grassroots participation in development.
