President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to upgrade selected nursing and midwifery training colleges across the country into degree-awarding institutions, as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare and education sectors.
Speaking during his Thank-You tour of the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31, Mahama reiterated his commitment to expanding access to quality tertiary education, particularly in underserved regions.
“We remain committed to expanding tertiary education, especially in underserved regions. In line with this, the NDC government will establish a university in the Ahafo Region to offer world-class programmes in agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences,” he said.
Mahama explained that transforming health training institutions into degree-granting colleges would enhance the professional development of nurses and midwives, while improving the overall quality of healthcare delivery in Ghana.
He also announced the continuation of the distribution of buses to senior high schools and health training institutions to support academic operations and ease transportation challenges across the country.
“We will upgrade selected nursing and midwifery colleges across the region into degree-awarding institutions. And we will continue the distribution of buses to SHSs and health training institutions to help academic operations,” he said.
