Flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former president John Dramani Mahama will today, Monday, 12 November 2018 begin his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.

His tour forms part of his campaign to interact with delegates of the party as he seeks to lead the them in the 2020 General elections.

The Ex President is scheduled to tour parts of the region till Thursday, 15 November 2018 after which he will take a break to allow the delegates in the region attend the party’s National Delegates’ Congress to elect national officers in Accra on Saturday. 

Mr Mahama is expected to resume his campaign activities after the Congress.

He has already met with delegates in constituencies in the Central, Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Brong Ahafo and Greater Accra regions.

The former president has been calling for unity in the NDC, promising to strengthen the structures of the party as well as modernise its programmes and activities to address the needs of its members.

Reducing the high cost of living in the country as well as working hard to provide jobs for Ghanaians has also been major talking points for Mr Mahama during his meetings with delegates.

Mr. Mahama who has been tipped by political analyst to emerge winner of the flagbearership race comes against a lineup of aspirants which includes the Nadowli Kaleo MP, Alban Bagbin, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah; a former Trade and Industry Minister; Former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi and Cape Coast South MP, and Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, Stephen Atubiga, Former Kumasi Mayor, Kojo Bonsu  who have declared their intent to contest for the slot.

Meanwhile, the NDC has slated December 7, 2018, for the election of its flagbearer for the 2020 presidential election.
