A middle-aged man was tragically killed on Wednesday evening after being struck by a moving Tema–Mpakadan train in the Bediako enclave near Afienya, in the Greater Accra Region.
According to video footage captured by the train’s onboard camera, the unidentified victim was seen walking along the railway tracks as the train approached. Despite repeated horn blasts from the operator, the man failed to move away and was hit before the train came to a halt.
The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) confirmed the incident and expressed deep regret over the fatality, which occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. The Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU2) train was en route to Afienya at the time.
Police officers from the Community 25 Division arrived at the scene and conveyed the body to the Tema General Hospital for autopsy and identification.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the operator made several attempts to warn the pedestrian by sounding the horn, but the victim did not respond in time.
In a statement, the GRDA cautioned the public to avoid walking or crossing railway lines, emphasizing that such actions are extremely dangerous. The Authority also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety along railway corridors, pledging closer collaboration with law enforcement and emergency services to prevent similar tragedies.

The GRDA added that a full investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
The fatal crash follows another worrying episode on Monday, when a moving train was struck by a stone, shattering one of its windows. The perpetrators fled before security personnel arrived.
The two incidents have heightened concerns about public safety and encroachment along the Tema–Mpakadan railway line, prompting renewed calls for intensified public education and enforcement of railway safety regulations.
