Manchester City claimed derby bragging rights in emphatic fashion, cruising past Manchester United with a 3-0 victory on Sunday evening.
Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing off a slick City move to put the hosts in control. After the break, Erling Haaland took centre stage, netting twice in the 53rd and 68th minutes to seal the win.
United created chances but lacked cutting edge in front of goal, while City’s ruthless efficiency highlighted the gulf between the two sides.
Post-match, United captain Bruno Fernandes admitted frustration:
“We conceded three goals that we could have avoided… we keep creating chances, but we are not scoring as much as we want. City were smart and took theirs.”
The result extends City’s strong start to the Premier League season, while United face renewed scrutiny over their direction after a disappointing performance in one of the biggest fixtures of the campaign, highlighting their patchy start to the season after amassing only four points in their first four opening games of a Premier League season.
Manchester City are seated 8th on the English Premier League table with six points from four games, winning twice and losing twice as well. Manchester United on the other hand, are seated on the 14th position on the league table with a win, a draw and two losses after four games.
This also marked the poorest form to the start to a campaign since the 1992/93 season for the Red Devils.
