The Liberia Football Association has announced the appointment of Mario Marinica, a seasoned Romanian coach with over 28 years of experience, as the new head coach of the country's senior men's national football team, the Lone Star.
Marinica's primary objective is to guide the team to success in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 preliminary round and subsequently secure qualification for the final tournament.
His inaugural match as head coach will be in the preliminary round, with Liberia set to discover their opponents during the draw scheduled for February 20, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt.
With a wealth of experience, Marinica has signed a two-year contract and will collaborate closely with the technical department to identify and nurture young talent both domestically and internationally.
Prior to joining the Liberia Football Association, Marinica served as the Technical Director of the Football Association of Malawi, where he played a pivotal role in the team's success.
During his tenure, Malawi reached the last 16 of the Cameroon 2021 AFCON, ultimately bowing out to Morocco.
Marinica's coaching staff will include two foreign assistant coaches, Clwyd Jones and Ronald D. Moroka, as well as a dedicated physical therapist, Chikondi Mandalasi.
Additionally, he will appoint two local coaches, including a goalkeeper trainer, to complement his coaching team.
