Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has stated that he would turn down any offer to become Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, despite his confidence in his ability to perform effectively in the role.

According to him, accepting such an appointment at this time would send the wrong signal to the public, given his ongoing public disagreements with the current Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng. He fears it could be wrongly interpreted as a move driven by personal ambition rather than national service.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Kpebu explained that although he considers himself qualified for the job, public perception would make such an appointment problematic.

“Ordinarily, I would have had no hesitation accepting the role, but because of the open dispute between Mr Agyebeng and me, people may wrongly assume I orchestrated his removal just to take over,” he stated.

Kpebu further indicated that he remains confident in his competence and would serve effectively if both the president and the Ghanaian public genuinely believed in his suitability.

His comments come shortly after his arrest on Wednesday, December 3, in connection with an alleged obstruction of an officer from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He was later released on bail under conditions that require him to provide a surety and present landed property
