Accra Girls, a well-known Ghanaian restaurant in Worcester, Massachusetts, has been seized by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) due to unpaid taxes.
Located at 1280 Grafton Street, the restaurant was shut down after two bright orange notices were posted on its windows, indicating that the state had taken possession of the property for tax non-payment.
The exact details and timing of the seizure have not been disclosed, as the Department of Revenue declined to comment further.
The restaurant, co-owned by Emmanuel Larbi and Manasseh Konabu, had gained a reputation for serving authentic Ghanaian cuisine since opening in 2017. It was previously featured by the Worcester Business Journal for its cultural offerings and traditional dishes such as Jollof rice, Banku, boiled yam, and spinach stew.
Despite repeated attempts, the owners have yet to respond to media inquiries regarding the closure. Accra Girls' Instagram page describes its mission as delivering “hospitality on a plate,” reflecting its commitment to celebrating Ghanaian food and culture in the heart of Worcester.
The future of the restaurant remains uncertain as the state moves forward with enforcement actions related to the unpaid tax obligations.
