The West African Football Union (WAFU) has named the officiating team for the highly anticipated U20 Championship semi-final between Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, set for Sunday, October 27, 2024.
Malian referee Sory Ibrahima Keita will lead the team on the pitch, with Ephraim Whehgar Grant Whengar from Liberia and Tchedre Gbandi Belaou from Togo as his assistant referees.
Togo’s Kossi Fabrice Senyo has been appointed Fourth Official, while Burkina Faso’s Pare Lassina will serve as the Match Commissioner.
Adding to the excitement, Ghanaian legend Samuel Opoku Nti has been appointed to the Technical Study Group for this year’s tournament, bringing his expertise to the analysis and development of the competition.
The Black Satellites, led by Coach Desmond Ofei, emerged victorious in Group A and will face Côte d'Ivoire, the second-placed team from Group B, in this crucial semi-final clash in Togo.
A win will secure Ghana a spot in the final, as well as a coveted place in the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The WAFU B U20 Championship serves as the regional qualifier, with only the two finalists earning tickets to the AFCON, which also acts as a pathway to the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
For Ghana, this match represents a significant opportunity, as reaching the U20 AFCON would put them one step closer to the world stage.
