Ghana Premier League winners Medeama took a giant step towards qualification for the group stages of the CAF Champions League as they defeated Guinean side Horoya SC 3-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The home side started the game on the front foot as they created many openings but were unable to make them count.
The Guineans soon warmed themselves into the game but couldn't find the cutting edge.
Fatawu Hamidu sent a free kick into the Horoya box, but Kofi Asmah could only head the ball wide.
There were 2 minutes of added time before the first half ended goalless as neither side could hit the target.
Black Stars striker Jonahan Sowah was put cleanly through on goal two minutes after the restart but hit the ball wide.
Seconds later, Nana Kofi Babil hit an outrageous strike to put the Mauve and Yellows in front, a goal their efforts deserved.
In the 65th minute, the Ghanaian champions added a second goal as Nurudeen Abdulai headed home from a corner kick to make it 2-0.
Medeama made the result safe as Kofi Asmah scored from a screamer in the 69th minute to make it 3-0 before the away side had a man sent off after a vicious foul.
In stoppage time, Horoya pulled one back through Lamine Fofana Mohammed to make the second leg a contest next week in Conakry.
