Accra Hearts of Oak defender Michael Ampadu will leave the club at the end of the 2024/25 season, as he is not part of head coach Aboubakar Ouattara’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
The 26-year-old right-back will depart as a free agent when his contract expires in July 2025, bringing an end to a turbulent 13-month stint with the Phobians.
Ampadu’s exit has been heavily influenced by a deteriorating relationship with coach Ouattara.
The pair reportedly fell out over tactical disagreements and inconsistent selection, which saw the once first-choice defender slip down the pecking order after the January transfer window.
Ampadu started the season brightly, holding down the right-back spot, but lost his place following the arrival of new defensive additions. Since Matchday 26, he has seen limited action—mostly from the bench or not being included in the matchday squad.
Despite the challenges, Ampadu made 21 appearances this season, registering 2 assists while averaging 2.7 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, and 1.3 key passes per game—solid numbers that reflect a dependable if unsettled presence.
Although he was recently reintegrated into the squad, Hearts' technical team—backed by club leadership—opted not to extend his stay as part of a wider squad shake-up following a disappointing league campaign.
Now a free agent, Ampadu is reportedly attracting interest from several Ghana Premier League clubs and lower-tier European sides, with the summer transfer window likely to provide a fresh start for the former Liberty Professionals man.
