Member of Parliament (MP) for the New Juaben South Municipality in the Eastern Region, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, has donated sewing machines to the Home Economics Department of some selected Senior High Schools in Koforidua.

The beneficiary schools, ie; Pentecost SHS, New Juaben SHS and Oti Boateng SHS received one industrial sewing machine and five hand sewing machines each.

Speaking after the presentation, the MP said skills training is important for the growth of every country since helps create jobs the unemployed.

"Technical, Vocational education and its associated skills are key to our country’s economic development. With relevant employable skills, individuals can set up their own companies and organisations, making more job opportunities available for the unemployed," Said Okyere Baafi.

He continued, "Economically, times are shifting to stages of graduates not being employees only but becoming employers in the job market. Technical and Vocational education, therefore, provides an increase in the skill options available to the learner for effective survival in the economy. Beneficiaries will be self-employed and can produce goods that are of export quality thereby increasing our foreign earnings."

He added, "I believe that If the youth in my constituency are given training in technical and vocational education, it will create jobs. This will lead to a reduction in social vices such as robbery, stealing, prostitution, rape, drug addiction etc."
