New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the New Juaben South Constituency, Michael Okyere Baafi, says his priority is to bring major developments to the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua and its surrounding towns.

He has since called for a united front in bringing his vision and mission to reality.

Hon Baafi made this known when he launched a project aimed at developing the regional capital, dubbed ‘This is the era for development’.

Addressing a stakeholders forum with the political parties, he said “We want to develop Koforidua and we want to try every means to make it happen. To be able to achieve this target, we will need the support of everyone. We will need support from the major opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), NDP, PPP, CPP, and other parties.”

He explained that the development is in four folds which includes helping SHS graduate to further their education the tertiary level.

According to him, there will be massive developments in Koforidua within a shortest posible time the literate rate in the area is higher.

“I am going to invest a lot in education so there will be enough literate in the town. Education has been very cheap so in the next two years we want to train 50 engineers and doctors in Koforidua with conscious effort.” He stated.

He continued, “Last week we held a meeting with the Indian High Commissioner and he has assured us scholarships for medicine and engineering so in this case, our people can offer the courses out there. So at the end of my first term in office at least we should be able to get at 50 natives from Koforidua who are engineers and doctors.”

The MP also promised to fix the poor road network in the first quarter, revealing he has petitioned the government to help fix three major roads in Koforidua and its environs.

He added that in the quest to help relieve people from their burdens, he has initiated a trading fund where they will assist individuals with money for their various businesses. The disbursement of the fund he said, is scheduled on March 1, 2021.

Mr. Baafi also promised to fund a two-day training for all Assembly Members to help the smooth running of the area.

“I am doing all this for you to understand the work you are doing. We are going forward and we are not leaving any stone unturned" he added.

He used the occasion to donate two motorbikes to the NDC and the PPP representatives who attended the forum.
