The Minority in Parliament has called for the resignation of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, or his dismissal by President John Dramani Mahama following the withdrawal of a disputed lithium agreement laid before the House.

According to the Minority, the agreement contained serious inaccuracies and fell short of protecting Ghana’s national interest.

Their concerns intensified after the Ministry withdrew the document barely a week after submitting it to Parliament, citing the need for further consultations with stakeholders and communities affected by the deal.

Contributing to the debate on the floor of Parliament, the Minority, led by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Assafuah, accused the Minister of poor judgment and a lack of due diligence.

He noted that the Minister had earlier defended the agreement publicly and in Parliament, only to reverse course days later.

Mr Assafuah argued that the sudden withdrawal of the document undermines the Minister’s credibility and raises serious questions about his competence and honesty.

The Minority further contended that bringing what they described as a flawed agreement before Parliament amounts to a breach of trust and a failure to act in the best interest of the country.

On that basis, they concluded that the Minister can no longer be relied upon to oversee Ghana’s natural resources and insisted that his continued stay in office is untenable.
